Dear Son,

Dear Son, I am so thankful that you are pursuing God like you are, as a parent that is my ultimate goal for my children. The journey to knowing God is a life long trek because of the depth of His character. As you walk with Him daily and are obedient to His Word He will teach you all He wants you to know even His very heart (1 Cor. 2:9-13). The key to understanding why we fear God is to remember exactly who God is. We focus a lot on God as Father and Savior emphasizing His great love and grace which is good but not complete.

He holds my life in His hands
My very soul
He speaks and all creation bends
To His will
At His command the earth is held
In place
He shouts and the earth trembles
He whispers and all the animals hush

He is the only rightful judge
Of all mankind
His holiness demands no less
Than perfection
His righteousness requires condemnation
Of all sin
His weakness is stronger than a thousand men
His foolishness is wiser than all earthly knowledge

He sees all, knows all, understands all,
Nothing is hidden
He reached from His throne
To rescue me
He limited Himself to flesh and blood
To die for me
He covers my sin with His holiness
He forgives, forever, my deepest sin

The Almighty Holy God, Creator
Of all things
Chose to love and forgive and adopt me,
As His own.
He heals my deepest pain
He chooses to love me, as his child
He holds my life in His hands,
My very soul

In the face of such power and holiness I fear, knowing God has every right to banish me forever. To think though, that this Awesome and Terrible God pours out His love so lavishly on mankind – on me – stirs an even deeper fear. How can I dare take all this lightly? “Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all” How can I be casual about this relationship, or choose what I will or won’t obey? To do so disrespects the grace of God; it scorns the passion He displayed on the cross, it discards as trivial the gift of His love.

My son, treasure your relationship with God as your most precious possession. Reverence it as sacred, above all else. This relationship was bought at the highest price imaginable, the blood and pain of the Almighty. “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Eccl 12:13
